Holding God Hostage was formed in 2000 by Josh “Ambivalence” Hostage (Bomb Threat, 3 Days Left, In Harm’s Way, Hopefiend) and Bruce “Spit” Kimball (In Harm’s Way, Hopefiend). Bruce’s nickname stemmed from his ability to blow a 7-11-foot flame on stage from a single shot of 151 during performances. Guitar player (forcefully) turned bassist Shane Lewanda anchored the rhythm section. Beginning with drummer Todd Dawson (Kultus, Bomb Threat), Chasen Dewey took over soon after, and they released a seminal album around 2003. Soon after that release, Chasen left the group as well, opening the door for Raheem “Amon-Ra” Foreman to helm the percussion (Made of Hate, Bomb Threat, Crystal Wizard, Dark Con of Man).

They have rocked the stage hard alongside Testament, Ice-T & Body Count, Black Dahlia Murder, Pain Principle, Hellyeah, The Misfits, Death Angel, Watch Them Die, Goatwhore, Prong, Obituary, MOD, Deicide, and many more well-known metal acts. I personally attended several performances and jam sessions, even rocked the stage as a hip hop act with the band, and am thankful I was given the blessing to release what remains of their early demos.
