about

This was an exercise in capturing the right sound at the right moment, when a band is at their peak of creation. Too many bands don't get that opportunity......

Upon staggering into a basement bar in Atlanta (literally), I happened to hear Envy play the last song of their set (Tree Song). Immediately blown away, I offered to finance their recording and wanted to book studio time for the band as soon as possible. Much to my chagrin, they had "heard that before", were fairly standoffish, and added that they were splitting up soon. Bassist Rob Salomon was leaving for another college in the New England states, Songwriter Jon Bain was leaving Atlanta for a teaching job, and Todd Nickelson had other motivations in life that the band no longer fulfilled. I offered to record them regardless and left it to fate that they might call. Several days later the phone rang with Jon double checking to make sure I was serious, to tell me they had discussed it as a band, and figured "Why Not?"

Indeed........

All tracks were done practically in ONE TAKE with little to no overdubs; A testament to their solid arrangements. Impressed, Engineer Louis Varnedoe asked "Where did you find these guys?", loved their work ethic, and at that time offered me a position as a talent scout for their studio where The Allman Brothers Band had recorded some works. The Single "WAKE UP" garnered some attention on college radio in Atlanta, but just as momentum for the group was beginning, they dissolved and disappeared into the ether. It is my sincere hope that we captured them in their "moment".

The Master ADAT's for the album were lost 3 years ago, but I managed to find this jewel on a gold CD when cleaning house and decided to release it after too many years. Comparisons to Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, and other Grunge groups of the 90's have all been thrown around upon listening. You be the judge...
